How to download your raw DNA file

Menu names change from time to time, but these are the usual paths.

23andMe

Sign in and open Settings. Scroll to 23andMe Data and choose View. Select Download raw data, then confirm through the email 23andMe sends. You'll receive a .zip file.

AncestryDNA

Sign in and go to DNA, then Settings. Under Actions, choose Download DNA Data and confirm through the email Ancestry sends. You'll receive a .zip file.

MyHeritage

Open DNA, then Manage DNA kits. Click the three-dot menu next to your kit and choose Download. You'll receive a .zip file containing a .csv.

FamilyTreeDNA

Sign in, open Family Finder, then Download Raw Data. Choose the Build 37 raw data file.

Living DNA

Go to Settings, then Download my data, and choose Download raw data.

Questions

Is my DNA really never uploaded?

Yes. The analysis code runs as JavaScript in your browser, and there's no server endpoint that accepts DNA data. You can check this yourself: load the page, turn off Wi-Fi, then analyze your file. It still works.

Which files work?

Raw data exports from 23andMe, AncestryDNA, MyHeritage, FamilyTreeDNA and Living DNA. Upload the .zip exactly as you downloaded it, or the .txt/.csv inside it.

Is this a medical test?

No. DNAtest360 reports well-studied traits for education and entertainment. It doesn't provide medical diagnoses or disease risk.

Why is a trait marked "not in your file"?

Each company tests a slightly different set of about 600,000–700,000 markers. If your chip didn't include a marker, we can't report that trait.
